Well ! I have been MIA for quite a while, so here a quite a few photos to update the past month or so of my life......
I saw a pair of pronghorns when I was in the field one day. It was the first time I have actually seen them in the wild....I guess seeing them at a national park IS in the wild, but seeing them out in the middle of the high desert about a mile or so from the nearest (dirt) road is way different than seeing them next to the main road in a NP. Anyway. When these guys first came upon me, they weren't scared...which at first I thought was really cool, but then it made me a little nervous, because he kept coming closer, and showed no fear (even when I walked towards him talking). I instantly began planning my route up the half dead juniper, before he lost interest and wandered off.
I like how the shape of his horns are mimicked in the dead juniper branches.
A storm rolling in I was trying to out run (yet stopping to take photos of it)
This is by an old abandoned corral
Chaco Canyon. I cant even begin to describe how amazing this trip was....a mecca
This is a pictograph about 3 miles out on the hike out to Penasco Blanco...its called the "supernova pictograph" and is thought to represent when the supernova exploded in 1054 AD and created the crab nebula....you can see a crescent moon to the right of the"supernova", and it was a crescent when this event occurred.
Penasco Blanco....a 3.8 mile hike across the canyon. Totally worth it, even in the middle of the hot, desert summer.
