Lets start with the name I have chosen..."Wanderlust", as can be seen in the title of this blog, is "a strong, innate desire to rove or travel about"...I cannot think of a better name to use, nor a better word to describe myself. In the past year, I have driven across the country (New York to California) five times. After settling in Quincy, CA for what I thought was at least 6 months, I left after three, to drive out to where I am now, in south eastern Utah. In the past two years I have driven just over 42,000 miles. And walked/hiked (I have the best job ever. ) an unknown amount.
Recently, I have been obsessed with two things...... clouds and rocks. Ok. Maybe I have ALWAYS been obsessed with these things, BUT. I have been deprived of east coast clouds for a little over a year now, and I have NEVER experienced the landscape I am seeing now. So, I will start this VERY FIRST post off with two photos...one of clouds, and one of cliffs.
This, I took while walking home for lunch one day in early July....the landscape isn't the best, but the thunderheads rolling into town are stunning.
This photo was taken this weekend at Natural Bridges National Monument. You can see Sipapu Bridge in the center of the photo. (I wish we could have hiked down to see it/get a better photo, but a thunderstorm came in really fast and it was hailing and lightening was striking all around us). Sipapu is a Hopi word, which is used to describe the opening in the earth where their ancestors first emerged from. (I believe its sometimes called the "navel"...gross.) A sipapu is also a feature within modern day and prehistoric Kivas.
