Todays post, will honor one of my favorite things in the world. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Something I see everyday, yet be filled with wonder each time I see it....LICHEN.
Lichen is absolutely stunning. Here is a close up of one of the rocks I was admiring today...

One of the books I read last summer, while living/working in the Klamath National Forest, was "The Klamath Knot", by David Rains Wallace. It spoke of the natural wonder of the area known as the Klamath Knot....I will probably talk more of this at a later time. ANYWAY. Among the things Wallace discusses, are lichen....here are a few of my favorite things he said of lichen
"These organisms live closer to rock than any others - they live by devouring rock with the acids they secrete....the durability of lichens is an example of the unusually evolutionary potential with which symbiosis, cooperation between different life forms, sometimes imbues organisms......lichens point up a revolution of human consciousness that evolution has caused - the realization that life forms are much more durable than land forms."
